CCSD MUsic Ensembles
Beginner Band
Beginner Band is comprised of all fifth and sixth grade students who started band at the beginning of the current school year. Beginner Band meets every Monday/Friday during seventh period (ARE) following Christmas break. A requirement for each Beginner Band member is a weekly lesson on their individual instrument; this time allows students to learn an instrument and to develop the fundamentals necessary for success in band rehearsals. Beginning Band performs a concert in the spring and has other potential performance opportunities.
Advanced Band
Advanced Band is comprised of all sixth grade students who have been playing an instrument for at least one year. Advanced Band meets every Tuesday/Thursday during first period (8:15-8:55). A requirement for each Advanced Band member is a weekly lesson on their individual instrument; this time allows students to develop the fundamentals necessary for success in band rehearsals. Advanced Band performs a concert in both the winter and spring and has other potential performance opportunities.
Seventh Grade Band (Graded Subject)
Seventh Grade Band is comprised of all seventh grade band students. Seventh Grade Band meets every day during fifth period. A requirement for each Seventh Grade Band member is a weekly lesson on their individual instrument. All Seventh Grade Band members must also join Junior Band (see Junior Band). This class allows all seventh grade band members (whether they began band in Fifth or Sixth grade) to continue to develop the fundamentals necessary to succeed in the high school ensembles. Students come to the high school with varying ability levels and this class period allows everyone to get on the same page in order to meet a new set of expectations at the high school level. Seventh Grade Band performs with Junior Band in both the winter and spring concerts. Some select Seventh Grade Band members may perform with the Marching Band.
Junior Band
Junior Band is comprised of all seventh, eighth, and ninth grade band students. Junior Band meets every Monday and Wednesday during second ARE. A requirement for each Junior Band member is a weekly lesson on their individual instrument; this time allows us to develop the fundamentals necessary for success in band rehearsals. Junior Band performs in both the winter and spring concerts.
Senior Band (Graded Subject)
Senior Band is comprised of all eighth-twelfth grade band students. It is a yearlong course divided into two different ensembles: Concert Band and Marching Band. A student may not be in Concert Band without being in Marching Band and vice versa. The concert band performs in both the winter and spring concerts. The Marching Band has numerous performances at football games, band shows, parades, etc. throughout the year. It is important to note that involvement in any other school sponsored sport/activity does not prohibit a student from being a member of the band program. EVERY student that enjoys music and is interested in playing an instrument is STRONGLY encouraged to take this course.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band is an additional ensemble now being offered. This ensemble is open to all interested high school instrumentalists who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone/baritone, percussion, guitar, bass guitar, and keyboards. Jazz Band meets during after school rehearsals.
Chorus
The Senior High Chorus is offered to any student in grades seven through twelve who is interested in singing and performing. Students have an opportunity to learn and develop the fundamentals of musical performance, expression, and comprehension through singing. This ensemble meets every Tuesday and Thursday during Second A.R.E.
The Chorus performs at the Christmas and Spring Concerts, as well as other events such as Baccalaureate, Commencement, and other worthy venues at the director’s discretion. Joining choir gives students a musical opportunity they might otherwise miss out on at the high school level. Any and all students are encouraged to join our choral program.
Please see Ms. Neyman if you have any questions or are interested in joining a CCSD musical ensemble!
